Taking photos: what story do I want to tell?

I really like this Afar magazine article about photography not because it is about taking “jaw-dropping photos” but because of two key ideas.

The first is that the featured photographer Chris Burkard pursued what he loved.  Burkard said, “I gave myself assignments to create the type of work I wanted to be assigned in the future.”

The second key idea is that he always asked himself “what story do I want to tell?” which I am happy to say I always ask myself before taking a photo.  And for me, sometimes the answer is just that it is beautiful and I want to share it.

I hope this article is inspirational for anyone taking photos, of wherever they are and whatever they are doing.
