Canadian family taking world tour before children lose their vision

Sometimes a story comes along that speaks to the purpose and power of travel, and reminds us to be grateful for our blessings. This story from CNN does that, and more, for me.

If you, or your children, were going blind, what would you do?

This family decided that travel would not only build visual memories but would also expand their children’s awareness of other cultures and other people’s hardships and appreciate what they have. They hope that by doing so, their children will be resilient and learn coping skills to be prepared to lead full and fulfilling lives when they go blind from a rare genetic disease.

“Lemay and Pelletier hope that getting to spend time in different countries and experience different cultures will show all of the children how fortunate they are, despite the challenges that may come later in their lives as their sight deteriorates.”

It’s a great story of love and hope, and as I said at the beginning, speaks to the power of travel.

I wish them all the best and with them, I hope that medical science finds a solution.
