A La Pomponnette – My Favorite Paris Restaurant

All dressed up and nowhere to go? Actually, we passed many restaurants walking down the hill from Sacre Coeur, but for some reason, we kept saying “mmm, I don’t think so, let’s keep going.” After all, it was Paris, with too many restaurants from which to choose. Never settle!
And then, the solution presented itself. I asked a local man who was walking his cute little dog. He not only had a recommendation, he walked us to a restaurant about 10 minutes away and introduced us to the proprietor.
The classic, family-run restaurant, A La Pomponnette, on Rue Lepic in Montmartre, was exactly what one hopes to find in Paris. The typical bar-restaurant, serving both traditional and creative French cuisine, is now run by the fifth generation of the same family that founded it in 1929.
From the well polished bar to the old light fixtures and the paintings on the wall from many Montmartre artists, it both looks and feels authentic.

The escargots, steak tartare and veal chop with chanterelles were all the best that I have ever eaten.
And I am sure the meal was made better by being surrounded by native Parisians, with pleasant and professional service, and the 10 minute walk with the charming local, who had declared it “magnifique!” I couldn’t agree more and I can’t wait to go back!
