I Recommend Rovinj!
Today was spend time in Rovinj day, which happily included a swim in the Adriatic! The water was calm and as always, sparkling clean, and still pretty warm, at least by my standards, at 29.9 F or 21.1 C according to seatemperature.org.
I continue to be impressed by how nice the people here are. Today I needed to find a shoe repair. I was told it was near the green market, and to ask anyone there. And once again, when the first person didn’t know the answer, he asked others until we got the directions. And then the shoe repair man was also very friendly and promised to have my boots fixed by tomorrow, at a great price, too. They were friendly and smiling.
After my shoe duty, we walked the narrow, cobbled streets, passing some cool cafes and boutique shops to the top of the hill to reach the church with its strategic and commanding view of the sea, then wandered through the other polished stone streets of the old town area.
In the evening, I was excited to see the acapella group, Klapa Valdibora, but unfortunately, I had the dates wrong. When I asked at the Grant Hotel Bar, she told me that it was last week, but that I should come back in June for the salsa festival, when the streets, and the fountain! were filled with people dancing.
But even without the concert, the walk along the lungomare (waterfront) was lovely with the changing light of sunset and dusk and a perfect temperature with no wind. Many people were strolling the waterfront and side streets and sitting in the cafes that line the whole waterfront.
And moored by the car parking lot was the Carinthian VII, which spoiled my perfect photo of Rovinj earlier in the day. It turns out that it is considered one of the most beautiful superyachts in the world, at 319 feet long. So I guess it didn’t spoil my photo after all.
I can’t say how Rovinj would be in the height of tourist season, but it is a lovely town that I would highly recommend for a long visit.
